Having a brilliant smile boosts your confidence, improving your daily life in a hundred ways. When you feel better about the appearance of your teeth, you smile more, speak up more, and put yourself out there more frequently.
But cosmetic dental treatments like veneers have non-cosmetic benefits, too. At Houston Precise Dental Care, Joe Eckford Jr., DDS, offers natural-looking porcelain veneers and Lumineers® to our patients in and around the Houston area. He aims to increase our patients’ quality of life, considering both cosmetic concerns and full-body wellness.
Covering problem areas
Porcelain veneers give your teeth an even color, size, and shape. They can also correct problems with your bite. If you have chipped or cracked teeth or have an uneven bite with gaps, veneers can help. Without uneven gaps, cleaning is easier and more effective. An even bite works better when you chew your food, improving your digestion.
Veneers also strengthen your teeth. The enamel surface of your teeth can wear away with age and use, leaving you more vulnerable to decay and even breakage. Veneers give your teeth a fresh outer surface, keeping them fully covered and protected.
Getting veneers takes a few appointments. First, we make room for the veneers by reducing your teeth in size as needed, using medication to ensure that you don’t experience pain. We also take molds for your veneers. The veneers are cast and shaped specifically to fit your teeth. Finally, we securely bond the veneers in place over your existing teeth.
Permanent improvements for your smile
We can place a veneer on a single tooth, or completely revise your smile. In some cases, we can use a single veneer instead of dental crowns to hold problem teeth together and provide an improved appearance. Your veneers feel just like your natural teeth.
A set of veneers can also serve a similar function to braces, re-aligning your bite and evening out the tone of your smile at the same time.
Unlike braces, veneers are permanent and irreversible. Eventually, after seven to 15 years, you may need a new set, but we can’t remove your veneers completely due to the permanent changes to your underlying teeth.
Not all patients are ideal candidates for veneers. If you grind your teeth or suffer from gum disease, veneers might not be the right solution for you. Dr. Eckford can suggest other alternatives.
Houston Precise Dental Care also offers Lumineers, a thinner veneer that doesn’t require as much modification of your underlying teeth. Lumineers may be quicker and easier to put in place and work best if you don’t have significant tooth discoloration or alignment issues.
